Business and Employment Survey
The Portland Neighbourhood Plan Working Group are seeking views on your current and future business circumstances. Whether you run a company or work freelance, your views will help the development of the Neighbourhood Plan.
The Government is supportive of establishing business friendly policy arrangements; For example, the new planning framework should attempt to help and encourage, rather than hinder business development.. However as we are aware Portland, uniquely for such a small area, has extensive environmental and heritage development constraints.
The Planning Authorities Local Plan sets the strategic direction for planning matters. A Neighbourhood Plan allows a community to look at future development needs and policies and to influence these and in circumstances, set local criteria. Ultimately the Plan will be subject to a referendum by residents of the Island and approved if the majority voting, agree with it.
The Neighbourhood Plan we are seeking to establish, will cover a number of themes including Business and the Economy, Roads and Transport and Community Facilties. By looking at these together across the Island we will all create a plan which is relevant and effective. The plan is intended to last up to 30 years with regular reviews.
